ho-lee fuck. look what doug bought me.

me: "why do you want to know if i work this weekend?"
mom: "well we were wondering if you could come home because doug got you something."
"a car? :chuckles:"
"yeah."

cue lots of yelling in disbelief, including, "are you shitting me!?!" finally she said, "c-a-r. car. he got you a car."

i kid you not. i spent about ten minutes on the phone with mom saying, "no he did not."
"yes he did."
"no he did not."

come monday i will be the owner of a 2001 kia optima, grey, with a sunroof and leather seats.

the catch? travis took $2000 off the price. when it dawned on me this means i have to give travis up i teared up and my voice broke. mom says the way he's been falling apart was his way of slowly saying good-bye for some time now. i have a tradition i'm establishing, however, with this third car.

there's a store in longview called cds and more. there are others in other towns, but they're all small cheap places where many of my posters came from. when i got my first car (a boy, named chiquita), i bought black letters spelling nine inch nails in a cool angled way. then, when i acquired travis, i bought plain white letters spelling nine inch nails with backwards Ns. now, it is time to return to black for my new, grey car.

i still have all the old stickers from chiquita, something that fell off the wheel when i totalled it, and one of the license plates. i wonder if i can get away with keeping one of travis's (though if not, i have his old ones). :sniffle: owen wrote a eulogy for him:

We will always remember Travis. Indeed, for Travis was he who ushered me from the airport to your home, to your family's home, even all the way to LA. He was a sturdy, if not ERR-prone vessel, and we shall always look upon him with the compassion and honor that's befitting a worthy comrade in the war that is life. :salutes: We salute you, Private, First class, Travis. :far away, trumpets play Taps: A friend in peace, an ally in war, Travis shows us how a machine can make us all better people.

:sigh: <3 * infinity, trav daddy.
