return to the living part 3: something more recent!

premiers symptomes, air

have you been to the new blanton museum of art? it's pretty sweet. owen and i spent too much time pondering over exactly why some of the modern art is called art, so the real art (european) was left unseen mostly. we're going back again so he can tour that section. he was very impressed with the range of artwork UT has. he still hasn't grasped the immense power the biggest college in the country has...

note my genius idea of holding up our five fingers. i'm so clever! [not]

speaks for itself. hitler looks pretty emo.

this was like what claire did on six feet under, taking pictures then cutting and pasting over papier mch. i wonder who stole from whom.

this is the ceiling over the big sitting area and mondo-staircase.

me likey the pretty colors.

this consists of 2,000 cattle bones, 80 communion wafers, and 600,000 pennies. obviously it's a statement on catholicism, but honestly i don't remember what the plaque said. i was too freaked out and concerned about being haunted by 2,000 cows. it's really beautiful, though. frank said he was there as they were pouring the pennies in. can you imagine $6,000 in pennies?

i really, really, REALLY love these.

this painting touched upon the evils of television. i actually really liked it, particularly this picture of it.

i liked the collage factor of these.

so i saw this pile of crap in the floor and said something to the effect of, "what's this pile of shit supposed to represent?" but then as i was looking at something else, owen, ever the voice of reason, actually read the plaque and pointed something out to me. this picture came out blurry since i couldn't use my flash, but check out the figure on the top center. it's a tiny dude with an even tinier shovel. and then my mind was blown. i am in love with this.

this jolly fellow was by the shoveler. i'm looking pretty rough, but i was as happy as he was!

you can see this in the background of the previous picture. when i first came upon it from the side, i was like, ok, paintings of pots. whatever. but as you step away from them, they become excedingly three dimensional, which was awesome. the sheer number of them made it better.

are you noticing these floors? they're a deep purple-brown, and i didn't shut up about them the whole time. i must have them in my home.

the rare northeastern owen.

i'm a fan of woodwork, being the granddaughter of a carpenter and all.

i dunno, i just really love this painting.

i had a hard time with this one. i really like how crazy it is, but it's filled with varying textures i wanted to touch. i pointed out to owen in children's museums they encourage you to feel the exhibits. owen pointed out to me we were not in a children's museum. i did touch the fuzzy fabric, but only for a moment.

are you ready?! it's time for a little real stuff!

i don't know why this chick is seeing baby heads, but she and the colors in this painting are beautiful.

hope you didn't need those boobies.

head on a platter. no explanation, just info on the artist. good enough for me!

for some reason i am in love with this painting. i was looking forward to showing this to owen and seeing it myself again. i can't explain it, really. it's just...good.
