nana and i went to super one, the grocery store by my house, and i saw derek working in the produce. i went to get bananas so maybe he'd see me, and while i was inspecting a bunch i heard a "hey" in my ear. he asked how i was doing, i made a sigh and face to convey how can i tell you about the past year?, and he looked down and said, "i know." i felt so old in that moment, like i'd gone ten years instead of one without seeing him. he said they're trying to get him to cut his hair, but he said, "sex sells. if a girl comes over to produce everyday just to see me, they're making a profit."
"i'd come in here everyday to see you."
he told me jonathan went to indiana, then added, "good riddance." he said jonathan skipped town owing just about everyone money, and that he was mad about "all the lies you find out about later, but i'm sure you know about that stuff."
"quite a bit."
"yeah, quite a bit."
it's some sort of consolation knowing i won't see jonathan around when i'm in town, and even moreso that everyone else sees the true jonathan i knew. i suppose i actually should have listened to jonathan when he tried to tell me he was an asshole.
in addition to possibly being the cutest boy with the prettiest curly hair i've ever seen, derek was so funny and wonderful. i miss him so much. and now i'm crying.
