ok so i'm quitting smoking again. yeah, "again." bite me. hopefully the bronchitis this time around won't be as severe since i was smoking less. i think my quantity was up a little, but it was only for like a year. previously when i quit, i'd been smoking for around four years. i knew if i could just avoid them for long enoughjust a few daysi'd get too sick to even take a deep breath, much less a drag. lo, saturday afternoon that lovely process started. all day sunday i sat on the couch with a glass of tea and my inhaler, going back and forth between the two. last night i started to cough up stuff, just a little though. i puked up phlegm like i had previously done a few months ago. it feels like i'm puking normally, but all that comes out is spit and phlegm. that's totally sexy, right?

before i began experiencing this crippling pain, when i was actually able to breathe without gasping like a poor beached fish, owen and i went to posado's. you've no idea how happy i am we have one down here; that's one of my family's favorite restaurants in longview. while i sat gorging myself on their perfect tortillas, a waiter who looked like he was still in high school walked up to our table and said, "i love your pentagram necklace. where did you get it?"

after exchanging a confused glance at owen, i replied, "well, i'm not really sure. i've had it for about 10 years; it's really old."
"oh, cool! i just got mine last year. :fingers it:"
"uh, it's really nice!"

it's okay, high school pagan guy. i thought i was a bad ass for wearing a pentagram, too. i was so alternative. ooh it's not christianity!

then the chick who brought our drinks stopped by and asked me, "are y'all from tyler?" completely unnerved by her possible recognition of me, i stuttered, "um, i-i used to live in longview..."
"i just asked because i noticed you put butter in your hot sauce. i'm from tyler, so i know that's a tyler thing."

ok yeah, my family puts butter in their hot sauce (it's the liquid kind at the table). but so does every other redneck in east texas! at first i was completely appalled at the idea, but once i tried it i was convinced. i mean, if you think about it, lots of people put butter on a tortilla then dip it in hot sauce, right? if you ever go to posado's, just try it. you'll be converted, too.

afterward we went to michael's to be adult-like and purchase custom-order frames. i still needed to buy one for the exploding dog print i bought him for xmas.

it's called "come closer" and is too freaking cute. on the bottom left, in the matting, sam brown (the artist) wrote the title, then on the bottom right signed and dated it. it was slightly thrilling. he did it in pencil, though, which seemed pretty dumb to me.

anyhoo, we brought it up to michael's, and got a pretty cherry wood frame with museum quality glass. the glass was very expensive compared to the standard stuff, but it's fantastic. there's virtually no glare at all. that cost, if i remember correctly, around $168. not that bad, about what i was expecting for a 24"x30" print.

then we had to pull out the bank breaker. owen just received a print he ordered three months ago from these german guys, EbOY. steffen saurteig, svend smital, and kai vermehr. they create pixilated art for really high profile companies like amazon, coca-cola, fortune magazine, dkny, etc. etc. the one he bought is of new york, and it's four feet by two and a half feet. when he unraveled it, i said, i'm sure, something along the lines of "holy shit" and got all excited. check out this hi-res version of it:

i really like the king kong. (: it's just one of those pictures that you can look at forever and still find something new. oh i love it. he only had to pay like $30 for it, but you know how much the frame was? same standard wood frame but with museum glass...$318. when the chick said the price i looked at owen, he looked at me, and i quickly said, "you know, it's a lot of money, but it's not like we'll ever have to pay for it again! at least no time soon."

capital one is now $500 richer. x_X

i completely geeked out in michael's; that place is too dangerous for me. i bought some fake daisies and little orange and yellow flowers to put in one of the pretty pots i bought from the heb. i also got a cute little ceramic frog that'll hang off the side of the pot. my new apartment doesn't get any direct sunlight, which is totally sweet from an energy-saving standpoint, not to mention i simply hate the sun. apparently it's not so good for plants, though. i asked owen, "do you think they'll really need so much sunlight?"
"um, do you not remember a little thing called photosynthesis?"

ok fine. then i'm putting fake ones out front, and i'll just put a fern or some other indestructible plant on my balcony. i'm trying to create an oasis for raz since she won't be able to hang out outside all night anymore.

also at michael's i bought a needlepoint kit. it's a 14"x9"picture of buddha and a bonsai, and it has a ton of chinese characters. the chinese are inferior to the japanese (hehe), but it's a really pretty picture. i'm really excited about doing it, but i haven't achieved much. i've just felt so weak from coughing and shit. i've got some of the leaves done, and started on buddha's head last night. it's going to be so pretty. i love watching these come together from just little x's of thread.

well i suppose i should probably do something productive seeing as i'm at work. i'm due for another dose of cough medicine, which is making itself apparent. there's a terrible tightness in my chest. ;( hopefully the next time i feel the need to smoke, i can think of the pain i'll ultimately experience the next time i need to quit.
