screw nature

this afternoon sarah and i went to the emma long metropolitan park and almost passed out on the hiking trail. it didn't seem that intimidating, but walking 2.7 miles in the rocky woods apparently is harder than walking it on a flat surface. oh yeah, and having water available would have been nice, too, but i wasn't planning on going here.

this is us at the beginning of our journey, where at every turn we gasped and remarked on the beauty of it all. that passed after about the first hour and a half.

i hung back at the first drop in case she fell. ;)

we went off the path for our first time to go beneath the bridge we'd just driven over. after marveling at the number of tadpoles, i pointed out a large mass of moss hanging from the bridge.

as i got closer to it, i said, "why is it movOH MY GOD!"

turns out that moss was actually hundreds of daddy long legs huddled on top of one another. why the fuck they were doing that is beyond me, but i started freaking out. i just couldn't believe it, and still can't; i've never seen anything like that in my life. next to them was a comparatively massive spider, about six inches from foot to foot.

looked like something from mario brothers.

strike a pose, there's nothing to it.

the first of many dogs we saw.

this dog's owner would throw rocks into the pool, and then the dog would chase after it. once they realized the rock had fallen to the bottom, they'd turn back to their owner and wait for another.

at this point the heat was getting to us, which apparently gives sarah free reign to put sticks in my mouth.

sarah started to complain about being thirsty, so i told her to drink from the creek. at first she wouldn't believe me that it's okay, but finally her dehydration took over. this water in the middle of the woods, with dirt, algae, and fish coursing through it, tastes better than what comes out of my tap. it was crazy, too, because each time we'd stop and drink from it, we could feel this revitalizing sensation. this was while we still loved nature. we paused to put our feet in the water since it was only around 60 degrees. this lead to us just walking through the creek alongside the trail. after just a few minutes of walking in the water, we weren't hot in the least bit.

in the loop of the trail, where the terrain is very steep and rocky, we found a huge flat rock to lie on. this was my view. this was the point at which we decided nature sucks.

when we finally made our way back to the part of the creek we walked through, we sat down on a rock and watched the fish peck at the sediment on our feet.

one of my favorite pictures. (:

on city park road.

now i shall pass out in my big comfy bed (i'll put a picture of it in tomorrow) and sleep late into tomorrow afternoon.
