not a girl, not yet a woman

tonight i spent an hour and a half explaining basic algebraic principles and the use of a TI-83 graphing calculator to my mom and little sister (11). she got to learn the pythagorean theorem and x/2 times the square root of two for finding the sides of a square when you know the diagonal. :sniffle: my little girl's growing up. i had to break to them that it doesn't matter where these equations come from; you just learn them and live with them. and no one cares where they came from unless you take logic courses in college. or have to do proofs in geometry, which will ruin her sophomore year of high school for her.
